🌿 Marldon Lands Trust: Investing in Community Wellbeing and Safety
Over the past 18 months, the Marldon Lands Trust has made a remarkable impact across the parish, funding and supporting initiatives that promote remembrance, health, and public safety. With a clear commitment to enhancing life in Marldon, the Trustees Julie Hore, David Roddy and Angie Smith have continued the many years of the charities work in the true spirit of the charity “to improve life for Parishioners”.
🌼 Garden of Rest: A Place for Reflection
One of the Trust’s most meaningful contributions has been the creation of the Marldon Garden of Rest—a serene, inclusive space for ashes interment and remembrance. Thanks to the Trust’s funding and support, the garden now offers:
- Funds towards initial setup, including landscaping and infrastructure
- Purchase and planting of trees and wildflower seeds
- Enhancing safety and accessibility for public use
- Funding for benches and gazebos, ensuring comfort and accessibility
- Ongoing support for planning and community engagement
This space is open to all, regardless of faith or beliefs, and offers a lasting legacy of peace and connection.
🏋️‍♂️ Outdoor Gym at Torfield: Fitness for All
In a bid to promote health and wellbeing, the Trust funded the purchase of outdoor gym equipment at Torfield, giving residents of all ages a free and accessible way to stay active. Installed alongside the play park, the gym encourages movement, social connection, and healthy habits in the heart of the village.
❤️ Emergency Equipment: Saving Lives Locally
Recognising the importance of rapid response in emergencies, the Trust has also funded the installation of defibrillators and bleed packs at key locations across the parish:
- Cut Of Class Hairdressers
- The Olde Smokey Inn
- Compton
- Marldon Village Hall
These life-saving devices are now available to the public, helping ensure that help is never far away in a crisis.
These efforts reflect a deep respect for Marldon’s natural environment and the people who enjoy it.
The Parish Council extends its deepest gratitude to the Marldon Lands Trust for its years of thoughtful stewardship and generous support. From creating spaces of remembrance to funding life-saving equipment and promoting community wellbeing, the Trust’s contributions have left a lasting imprint on the heart of our village.
As its charitable mission now comes to a close, we acknowledge the Trust’s final chapter with appreciation and respect. The charity will be formally wound down in the near future, having fulfilled its purpose with care, integrity, and a profound commitment to Marldon’s people and places.
Its legacy will live on—in the gardens we walk, the lives we save, and the community we continue to build together.
